Happy Birthday, Chuck Berry. On October 18, 1926, Charles Edward Anderson Berry was born in St. Louis, Missouri. The son of a schoolteacher and a contractor, Berry grew up in a prosperous black neighborhood in north St. Louis. In high school, Berry discovered both music and photography, and after he graduated, he even dabbled in boxing.
But, it was, of course, music that was Berry's calling. In 1952, he became a member of Sir John's Trio, playing gigs in St. Louis, but he gradually made his way northward to Chicago, where he met Muddy Waters. Waters introduced Berry to the owner of Chess Records, Leonard Chess.
Chess recorded Berry's "Maybellene," and New York disc jockey Alan Freed aired it on his program. "Maybellene" quickly became a hit, and Berry followed it up with other hits like "Roll Over Beethoven" and "Johnny B. Goode."
Berry had wide appeal and, of course, was largely responsible for the phenomenon of rock 'n' roll. The Beatles' John Lennon reportedly said of Berry's incredible influence, "if you were going to give rock and roll another name, you might as well call it 'Chuck Berry.'" Berry turns 84 today.

Aku bukan nak agung-agungkan Chuck Berry ni. Nanti datang pulak org berlagak bagus cakap "crita pasal nabi sendiri pun x tulis, tp crita pasal kapiaq laknat boleh tulis plak". Ni x dak kena mgena pasal agama. Aku x mau cakap apa2. Tapi aku cuma nak kongsi sejarah music rock n roll.. Aku suka artikel ni sebab, latar blakang ibu bapa dia macam aku jugak.. Ada persamaan dengan aku. Bukan pasal bakat. Aku tak da bakat macam dia. Dia dah legend. Bak kata John Lennon "If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry'.
Rock n Roll sebenarnya dah wujud dari zaman akhir 1940an lagi. Asalnya dari music country macam blues, jazz & lain2 yang di 'Trash"kan.. Hahaha.. Di keraskan la maksudnya. Biasanya music rock n roll ni dimainkan dengan 2 guitar (lead & rythm) 1 bass & drum. Sekarang ni music rock dah berkembang sangat2. Bercabang-cabang dan aliran yang ada. Dari selembut-lembut hingga ke sekeras-keras bunyi. Tapi jangan anggap yang lembut 2 x hebat. Kadang-kadang pengisian lagu dan teknik bermain lagu rock yang lembut & ringan lebih tinggi daripada yang keras.
Kalau cakap pasal band rock yang aku minat. International-Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Led Zeplin, Iron Maiden, Loudness, byk lg ar... lau malaysia-Blues Gang, Wings, SYJ. Banyak yang lama ja la. Ada la satu band rock & roll baru yang sedap Zip Zieller.
